Suspects In Immigration Officer Gun Theft Jailed 5 Years With Hard Labour

The two suspects who were arrested by the police for their connection to the theft of the firearms of an Immigration officer have been sentenced to five years imprisonment with hard labour.
They were arraigned before Walewale Circuit Court on charges of conspiracy to steal and stealing on May 22, 2025.
They pleaded guilty to the charges at the court presided over by Justice Francis Asobayeri and received five years imprisonment in hard labour each.
A statement by the police said processes are underway to have the convicts transferred to the designated detention centres to begin their sentences.
Mustapha Basit, 18, and Baba Rasid, 22, entered the room of the immigration officer at noon on May 17, 2025, he was away and stole a Smith and Wessonssen pistol loaded with ten rounds of ammunition as well as two CZ rifle magazines loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition each.
