Kwesi Anane, the Assistant Headmaster of Mpatasie D/A school has met his untimely death after falling into a galamsey pit on Tuesday.
Reports indicate that the 47 year-old was at the mining site to check up on his mining concession which is being operated by some miners he has hired.
This was confirmed by the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti region.
In a media interview, Edward Oduro Nsia, the NADMO coordinator for the District recounted, “He visited his own mining site. He had boys working for him at the site so after school he decided to visit them. He was supervising the boys and he was standing on the pitch, he didn’t know the pitch had cracks because it was night so the pitch collapsed with him”.
Anane is said to have died instantly.
His body was deposited at a hospital at Agroyesum, NADMO confirmed.
The Organization disclosed that five persons died in a similar fashion in the District in August.
