Ashanti Region Moves to Tackle Egg Glut

The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council is exploring practical interventions to address the persistent egg glut affecting poultry farmers.
On May 18, 2026, the Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, convened officials from the Department of Agriculture, members of the Poultry Farmers Association, and private investors to discuss measures aimed at supporting farmers and stabilising the sector.
The talks focused on improving the purchase, processing, and value addition of poultry products, particularly eggs, to reduce post-production losses and boost profitability.
Stakeholders examined options to strengthen market linkages and create more sustainable opportunities for farmers struggling with oversupply.
Private investors at the meeting expressed interest in partnering with actors along the poultry value chain to expand local production and support the growth of the industry.
Dr Amoakohene said the engagement forms part of broader efforts to promote agro-processing, strengthen food production, and improve livelihoods across the Ashanti Region.
He commended poultry farmers for their resilience despite ongoing challenges and expressed optimism that stronger partnerships would deliver long-term relief.
“Stronger partnerships would bring long-term relief and growth to the industry,” the Minister stated, pledging continued support for the sector.
The initiative aligns with ongoing government efforts to enhance agricultural productivity and expand agro-processing capacity nationwide.
