Asantehene Sets Second Monday After Akwasidae for Asanteman Council Meetings

The Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has designated the second Monday after every Akwasidae as the official day for Asanteman Council meetings henceforth.
Announcing the directive at the Manhyia Palace on April 20, 2026, the Occupant of the Golden Stool said the decision restores long-standing custom and will streamline the work of the Council.
On these days, Otumfuo intends to preside over the Council to resolve outstanding committee-level cases and clear all backlogs by the end of the year.
All oaths of allegiance for Paramount Chiefs will also be administered on the same day.
“This means that stool candidates will have to wait for that day to swear their oath. We are now reverting to what was traditionally instituted,” Otumfuo stated.
The move is expected to bring predictability to the calendar of the Asante traditional authority, ensure fuller attendance by chiefs, and strengthen adherence to custom in the conduct of Asanteman affairs.
