Asantehene Names Abusuapanin as Successor to Abrade Stool

The Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has named the head of the Asona Royal Family in Abrade as successor to the vacant male stool.

This follows the declaration of the stool as belonging to the Asona clan.

While the Aduana faction, who lost the case, were presenting “dibim” to the Asantehene on August 6, 2026, during a Kumasi Traditional Council meeting, Otumfuo singled out the family head of the clan and asked about his identity.

“I am the Asona Abusuapanin,” he humbly replied.

In response, Otumfuo stated: “You are fair, and I want to give you the stool.”

His Majesty then charged them to introduce him to the Queen and start preparations for his enstoolment as the next chief.

Background
On August 3, 2026, Otumfuo declared that the Abrade Stool is the rightful possession of the Asona Royal Clan and not the Aduana.

His Majesty noted that the case related to his uncle’s family, Otumfuo Agyemang Prempeh and that was why he opted to meet the family privately rather than hear the case in open court.

“My uncle appointed his wife to the female stool, and since then, her descendants have occupied it,” he stated.

The Asantehene urged the Asona clan to exercise patience until the current queen passes, after which the female stool will revert to them.

“Once she is no more, the stool will come back to you. The Aduana will not ascend any longer,” he said.
