Asante Groups In Holland Support Heal KATH Project with Cash

The Council of Ghanaian Chiefs in Holland and Asanteman Traditional Council of Holland have responded to the Asantehene’s call for financial support towards the renovation of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

The groups have presented $11,000 as its widow’s mite.

A dummy cheque of the donation was presented before Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on May 7, 2025, during the observation of the fourth Awukudae at the Manhyia Palace.

About Heal KATH
The Heal KATH project is a US10 million revenue mobilization drive being championed by the Occupant of the Golden Stool in the quest to renovate the dilapidated structure of the second-largest hospital and the only tertiary health institution in the Ashanti Region.

The hospital, since its construction in 1954, has been deprived of any enhanced renovation, leaving it in a sorry state.

After 70 years of its existence with successive governments passing through the years, none made it a point to attend to it.

At the launch of the Heal KATH Project in November 2023, the former Chief Executive officer of the hospital, Prof Otchere Addai-Mensah, disclosed the agenda to renovate the hospital had been on its radar for a long time but had to be shelved due to lack of funds.

Already, the renovation work is ongoing.

Upon the visit of the King to the hospital for an assessment of the progress of the work on January 31, 2025, he was informed Phase One was 95% complete.

This phase, comprising two floors of Block A, has been fully renovated and furnished, with only the installation of an oxygen bedhead remaining before it becomes fully operational.
