Amoakohene Welcomes Public Accounts Committee to Ashanti Region for Zonal Sittings

Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene has received the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in the region as it begins its zonal sittings to review public spending and accountability.

The Committee, led by Chairperson Hon. Abena Osei-Asare and Ranking Member Hon. Samuel Atta-Mills, arrived in Kumasi with members, clerks, and staff of the PAC Secretariat to commence proceedings at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC).

The zonal sittings are aimed at examining the Auditor-General’s Report and assessing how Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) and other public institutions have implemented its recommendations.

Reporting the Committee’s visit on April 20, 2026, Dr. Amoakohene said he welcomed the delegation on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and pledged the region’s full cooperation.

“On behalf of H.E. the President, John Dramani Mahama, I warmly welcomed them and assured them of our full support in the discharge of their mandate,” the Minister stated.

He described the Committee’s work as critical to national governance.

“Their work is critical in strengthening accountability, improving financial management, and restoring public confidence in our institutions,” he added.

The PAC sittings in the Ashanti Region will provide a platform for heads of MMDAs and public institutions to respond to audit queries and demonstrate compliance with financial regulations.

The hearings are part of Parliament’s oversight mandate to ensure transparency and value for money in public expenditure.
