Akandoh Elected Chair of WHO Committee B

Ghana’s Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has been elected as Chairman of the World Health Organisation’s Committee B, one of the two main committees of the World Health Assembly.
The Committee oversees the administrative and financial machinery of the WHO, including budgeting, financing, oversight, accountability, staffing, collaboration with the United Nations and other intergovernmental organisations, and institutional reforms needed to keep the organisation running effectively.
Key decisions on the governance and operation of the WHO are typically handled within Committee B before being presented to the wider Assembly.
The appointment places Ghana in a position to influence policy on health financing, institutional accountability, and international health cooperation at the highest level of the WHO’s decision-making process.
In a statement, the Ministry congratulated its boss on his election, saying the committee plays a central role in shaping how global health systems are managed, strengthened, and sustained.
“We are proud that the election of the Honourable Minister into this role reflects growing confidence in Ghana’s participation in global health discussions and in the country’s contribution to shaping how the world responds to health challenges,” the Ministry stated.
His election is expected to strengthen Ghana’s engagement in multilateral health diplomacy as the country continues to advocate for equitable health systems and pandemic preparedness globally.
