African Games: Why Players Were Bucketed In Pickup

The President of the Badminton Federation of Ghana, Evans Yeboah has recounted the series of events that prompted their decision to convey players in a pickup bucket to the Borteyman Sports Complex for their competitions on Sunday.

According to him, the bus of the team broke down leaving the team stranded and in urgent need of a means of transportation.

He notes that the head coach of the team offered his pickup truck and thereby their transportation in the bucket.

“On that morning, the bus that they were using had broken down on the expressway. So the coach in his own wisdom, decided to bus them, as an interim measure, to bus them,” he is quoted by JoySports as saying.

He indicated that their regular bus schedule resumed before the close of the day.

Leslie Addo, a badminton player, revealed to the media their mobility challenges after all eight athletes crashed out of the competition without a single medal on March 10.

Additionally, the team members disclosed they had their kits delivered late while Addo shared his plight about a wrong-size shoe he was given for the competition.

Ghana is hosting the 13th African Games for the first time in the competition’s history.
