Gavi Season Ends After Injury

Barcelona midfielder, Pablo Martín Páez Gavira, is feared to have ended his season after an injury while on international assignment.

A statement by the Spanish club confirmed he had a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee but failed to give a clear timeline for his recovery.

However, it is feared that he may be left out for between seven and nine months which means he is done for the current season.

Baca in a statement said the test was carried out on November 20 and confirmed the 19-year-old will undergo surgery in the coming days.

“Test carried out on Monday morning on the first team player Gavi have shown that he has a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and an associated injury to the lateral meniscus.”

Gavi sustained injury in Spain’s EURO qualifier against Georgia on Sunday and was forced off in the first half.

Though Spain won the game finishing top of the group with 21 points, head coach Luis de la Fuente characterized it as a bittersweet victory.

“It is a very difficult moment for Gavi, Barcelona, the national team and for me, it seems as if we have lost the game…We can’t celebrate as we would have liked. Gavi’s injury is a hard blow, I’m really gutted.”

“An important victory to end on a good note, but we leave with a bittersweet feeling because of Gavi’s injury.”
