838 Changfans On River Offin Burnt

A deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resource, George Mireku Duker has announced eight hundred and thirty-eight changfan machines have been decommissioned in a recent raid.

The machines were burnt during an operation on River Offin in the Western Region on August 16, 2022.

According to the Minister, the raid on River Offin followed reports of illegal mining activities known as “galamsey” on it.

The raid was done by the deputy Minister together with military officers of Operation Halt II.

Mireku Duker reiterated that personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces will be deployed on major rivers in the country to deal with galamsey.
