W/R: 3 Chinese Arrested Over Galamsey at Hiawa Koofrom

Three Chinese nationals have been arrested by the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) taskforce at an illegal mining site at Hiawa Koofrom in the Amenfi Central District of the Western Region.

This intelligence-led operation follows an intensified crackdown on illegal mining.

“Acting swiftly on credible intelligence received from an informant who provided the GPS location of the illegal mining site, the NAIMOS taskforce departed for Hiawa Koofrom at approximately 0910 hours.”

The three were among several Ghanaian illegal miners; however, the Ghanaians fled the scene upon a tipoff by local Okada riders, according to the Ministry.

It reported that a pump action gun with four cartridges, and two excavators used for destructive mining along the Ankobrah River were seized.
