28 Young Ghanaians Rescued from Trafficking Ring in Côte d’Ivoire

Twenty-eight Ghanaian nationals have been rescued from a sophisticated human trafficking network and safely returned to Ghana today.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the victims were repatriated from Côte d’Ivoire following a successful intelligence-led operation conducted by Ghanaian security operatives and officials of the Ghanaian Embassy in Abidjan.

The rescued individuals are now in Ghana and are actively assisting law enforcement with further investigations into the network.

The government extended its official commendation to Ivorian authorities, acknowledging their effective collaboration and timely sharing of intelligence, which were critical to the success of the rescue mission.

Dismantling Criminal Networks
In a statement released following the repatriation, the Mahama Administration assured the public that all necessary efforts are being made to dismantle the criminal enterprise behind the trafficking scheme and bring the masterminds to justice.

While specific details of the trafficking operation remain under investigation, officials describe the network as highly sophisticated, targeting vulnerable young Ghanaians with false promises of employment and travel opportunities abroad.

Warning
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued an urgent advisory for all Ghanaians to exercise extra vigilance to avoid falling victim to similar schemes. Citizens are strongly warned against engaging with unlicensed recruitment agencies that promise overseas travel and job placements.

“The public is encouraged to confirm the validity of any advertisement or offer with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment Relations, or Ghana’s diplomatic missions abroad before taking any action,” the Ministry stated.

Authorities urge anyone with information about suspected trafficking activities or illegal recruitment agencies to report immediately to the nearest police station or Ghanaian embassy.
