How Asantehene Showed “Genuine Love” towards KNUST

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II expressed his genuine love and affection towards the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) when he opted for a venue where he could spend quality time with the students instead of the Manhyia Jubilee Hall with people of high social status for a musical concert.

This was revealed by Prof Jerry John Kponyo, the Dean of the Quality Assurance and Planning Office and member of the Chancellor’s Week Planning Committee in his closing remarks at a Musical Concert to celebrate Otumfuo at the Great Hall of the university.

He revealed how Otumfuo opposed an initial decision to host the concert at the Jubilee Hall, insisting on the need to spend time with the school on the auspicious occasion.

“This concert was originally supposed to take place in the auditorium of the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Jubilee Hall at Manhyia and would have offered only the privileged few to attend. Nana Chancellor, when you were briefed about it, you chose to rather come to the university to spend this time with us and as a result of which many more people have had the opportunity of celebrating the occasion with you.”

According to him, the priceless day will forever be etched in the memories and hearts of persons who joined.

Together with Prof Rita Akosua Dickson, the Vice Chancellor, they described the decision and stance of His Majesty as “genuine love and kindness” and appreciated him for it.

“Your Majesty, your decision to spend tonight with us is indeed a testament to your deep love and connection to us here at KNUST,” the VC stated in her address.

The musical concert was part of a four-day celebration to honour the exemplary leadership of Otumfuo.

Called the ‘Chancellor’s Week’, it was launched on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, as part of Otumfuo’s Silver Jubilee on the Golden Stool themed, “The Asantehene and Chancellor of KNUST: 25 Years of Exemplary Leadership”.
