Protect Women In Politics; NPP to Media Houses

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has encouraged media houses to take responsibility for the safety of women in politics.

This follows alleged threat to assault it’s Deputy Communication Director, Jennifer Oforiwaa Queen, during a panel discussion by Movement for Change’s Hopeson Yaovi Adorye on Thursday at a media station.

A statement by Communications Director of party, Richard Ahiagbah, condemned the incident.

“Ghana has made significant strides in driving women’s political participation and amplifying their voices in our national discourse.”

“Therefore, threats of assault or actual assault on women for expressing their political views must not be tolerated. Tolerance has been a key element in Ghana’s democracy, and we should continue to promote tolerance and respect for all in our national discourse.”

He on that note urged all media houses to deal with the menace which he described as “unprogressive, undemocratic, and primitive”.

“This is a democracy, and people’s rights to free speech and expression must not be curtailed whatsoever.”
