Two More Monkeypox Cases Recorded

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has recorded two more cases of Monkeypox, bringing the total number of cases to four.

The two new cases were recorded in the Greater Accra Region and the Western Region.

A statement by the Service said the two newly confirmed cases have no epidemiological link to the earlier reported cases.

In response to this, the respective Regional Health Directorates have promptly activated public health measures, including contact tracing, to prevent further spread of the virus.

“We take this opportunity to remind the public that Mpox is a viral disease transmitted to humans through close contact with an infected person, animal, or contaminated materials.”

Common symptoms include rash, fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, and swollen lymph nodes.

“The Government of Ghana remains committed to safeguarding public health. Drawing on our experience in managing similar outbreaks, we will continue to implement appropriate measures to protect the health and well-being of all residents.”

The public has since been strongly advised to
-Practice regular hand hygiene,
-Avoid close contact with individuals exhibiting symptoms such as rashes,
-Report any suspected cases to the nearest health facility immediately.
