Obuasi: 24-Year-Old Allegedly Shoots Girlfriend to Death During Altercation

A 24-year-old man has allegedly shot his girlfriend to death in Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.

According to a police report, the incident happened on November 19, 2025, during an altercation between the couple at their residence at New Nyamebekyere around 9 pm.

The suspect, identified as Sylvester Afriyie, reportedly shot 23-year-old Charlotte Obeng thrice before fleeing to take cover in Kumasi.

“The suspect escaped to Kumasi but intermittently came back to Obuasi. We got intelligence and arrested him at a Konka barrier,” DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, the Ashanti South Regional Commander, told the press on November 24, 2025.

The suspect has since led the police to retrieve the gun used in the crime and confessed to the crime, according to the Regional Commander.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in court today.
