Immediately Address Persistent Power Outages- Weija-Gbawe MP to ECG

The Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe Constituency, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has urged the Electricity Company of Ghana and the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) to take immediate and urgent steps address the persistent power outages in his constituency.
According to him, there has been disproportionate and unannounced power disruption in his jurisdiction in the last four days.
In a statement, he attempted to draw the attention of relevant authorities to the persistent and unannounced power outages (dumsor) that have plagued his constituency over the past few months.
The second Deputy Minority Whip said the unplanned development disrupts households, healthcare facilities, educational institutions and businesses.
“The consequences are dire, hampering economic activity, endangering lives and compromising the delivery of essential services.”
He furthered, “While it is clear that the current power crisis is a national issue, Weija-Gbawe appears to have been disproportionately affected, with some communities experiencing continuous outages for more than four days and in certain instances, even longer.”
According to him, despite several engagements with ECG officials aimed to resolving this crisis, there has been no “meaningful” progress.
“We therefore make a respectful but firm appeal to the ECG, GRIDCo, and the Ministry of Energy to take immediate and decisive action to permanently address this issue.”
