Sarkodie Did Not Throw Shades in ‘Messiah’ – Kweku Flick

Kweku Flick has cleared the air on speculations that Sarkodie threw subtle jabs in their joint track Messiah.
According to rapper, he does not believe Sarkodie intended to direct the lyrics at anyone. Instead, he interpreted the message as Sarkodie affirming that he has paid his dues in the music industry and deserves the respect that comes with his legacy.
This understanding, Kweku Flick explained, even inspired the chorus he created for the song.
He added that if he had sensed any shade, he would have reflected it in his chorus, but his perspective was purely about honouring Sarkodie’s contribution to music.
Kweku Flick in an interview with Mac de President on Opemsuo Radio’s Oseikrom Kwanso, also noted that music is often a blend of personal and shared experiences. Sometimes, artistes draw inspiration from the stories of others rather than their own lives.
“Sometimes I may not use my own experience to write a story, but rather what others have told me. In that particular case, it may be that someone had been disrespected and shared it with Sark, and he used it to write the song. It could even be someone else’s story.
Using his own catalogue as an example, he mentioned his song Adadaa, which was written from another person’s heartbreak story, even though he has never experienced a broken heart himself.
For him, it’s possible Sarkodie’s lyrics in Messiah came from someone else’s account of being disrespected, rather than from his own personal experience.
The rapper’s newest single, Sikasem, was recently released.
