Galamsey: Arrested Foreign Nationals Are Handed Over to GIS- Police

The Ghana Police Service says all foreign nationals arrested in the clampdown against illegal mining activities across the country are handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).
They are thus in the custody of the GIS.
This was communicated in a statement issued by the police on Thursday in an update on the arraignment of some illegal mining suspects.
“All foreign nationals arrested have been handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service.”
On March 31, the police arrested 11 suspects for allegedly mining along the Bonsa River bank in the Western Region.
The suspects encompassed seven Ghanaians and four Chinese, the police confirmed in a statement.
The foreigners were identified as Wei Qinwei, Yao Yongji, Nuang Shichuan and Huang Xinbao.
Two more Chinese identified as Huan Ciongjian and Ling Yong were nabbed this week.
Fichser Raid
On 2nd April, 2025 in a swoop on illegal miners at Fichser near Bunsu in the Eastern Region, the Eastern South Regional Police Command arrested 11 suspects, nine of which were Ghanaians and two Burkinabes.
The foreigners were identified as Jey Done 40 years, and Adomah Bouba 25.
