FM Shutdown: Asaase Radio Renewed Its Licence In December- Gabby

The owner of Accra-based Asaase Radio, Gabby Otchere Darko, says the license of the radio station was renewed six months ago.
Confirming the shutdown of his pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) media organization among 61 others in a Facebook post, he wrote, “Yes, it’s true. Asaase Radio, which celebrates its 5th anniversary Saturday, has been shut down.”
According to him, the renewal was delayed but was eventually settled in December 2024.
“GM informs me it’s because the station delayed renewing its licence last year. It was to be renewed by October but only done in December 2024.”
On Thursday morning, the National Communications Authority (NCA) directed 62 FM Stations to suspend their operations for not holding valid broadcasting Authorisations or Certificates of Compliance to commence operations.
It said the affected FM stations include 28 stations operating with expired Authorisations; 14 stations with lapses in their Authorisations setup; 13 stations owing Provisional Authorisation fees; and seven stations yet to fulfil the final requirements for Authorisation.
It is reported that Wontumi FM is among the affected stations.
