Ashanti Regional Police Commander Reportedly Transferred

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Frank Abrokwa, has been transferred, it has been reported.

Though no official statement to this effect has been issued by the Ghana Police Service, GHOne TV reports that the Deputy Commissioner of Police has been transferred to the Police Headquarters in Accra.

This is in response to his unsatisfactory response to the violence that marred the Council of State election in the Ashanti Region on February 11 at the Regional Coordinating Council.

Videos from the incident which captured the former police commander in the midst of the chaos have widely generated condemnation from the public over his leadership.

Concerns were raised about the police’s inability to make arrests when unidentified, well-built men stormed the venue and reportedly disrupted the ballot sorting process and in the process assaulted electoral commission officials, journalists and others.

The police service has since issued a public statement announcing a review of all available footage to identify and arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
