Remove Otumfuo’s Sticker From Your Car If You Aren’t a Chief – A/R DVLA Manager

The Ashanti Regional Manager of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Mr Jerry E. Afablo, has appealed to drivers and vehicle owners to remove stickers of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, from their vehicles.

This excludes vehicles belonging to the Manhyia Palace and traditional authorities within the jurisdiction.

Mr Afablo observes that persons without roadworthy and other essential car documents tend to use the stickers—which often indicate they are members of the Asanteman or Kumasi Traditional Councils—to avoid scrutiny and accountability.

However, in an interview with opemsuo.com on the sidelines of a courtesy visit to the King on 28 May 2025, he affirmed that the sticker does not waive the need for roadworthy certification and insurance.

“In the Ashanti Region, we have seen many cars with Otumfuo’s sticker. Unless you hold the title of chief or the vehicle belongs to the Manhyia Palace, please refrain from displaying Otumfuo’s stickers on your vehicles.”

He said this in reference to a statement by Otumfuo in 2021 during a visit by the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA).

“We all remember when Otumfuo made it clear that the stickers are not licences. Those stickers do not waive the requirement for roadworthy certification and insurance.”

He therefore encouraged such persons to ensure their vehicle documentation is in order.
