Govt Developing Regulations to Guide CSR Activities by State Entities

The Deputy Chief of Staff, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, has said regulations are being developed to guide corporate social responsibility activities by state entities.
The assurance was given to Ketu North MP Edem Agbana after he raised concerns in a Facebook post about the sponsorship of awards by some state institutions.
According to the MP, the Deputy Chief of Staff reached out to him directly and promised to keep him updated on the progress of the regulations.
Agbana said the engagement reflects the need for collective effort in improving public accountability.
“Collectively, we can all contribute to making our country work better for all of us,” he wrote.
The planned regulations are expected to provide clearer guidelines on how state entities engage in CSR and sponsorship activities.
Background
In a Facebook post on May 15, Agbana said he had observed a trend of groups organising awards for CEOs, institutions, Ministers, and public officials, with some SOEs listed as sponsors.
He argued that significant funds were being channelled into such events while the direct benefit to the public remained unclear.
“Some of these institutions could instead be encouraged to channel their CSR resources into more impactful projects such as the construction of schools, AstroTurfs, drilling of boreholes, refurbishment of markets, and other community-based interventions,” he wrote.
The MP also urged the Chief of Staff to issue a directive on the matter, noting that the practice resembled what occurred under the previous administration.
