Benjamin Mendy Signs For Lorient After Rape Exoneration

FC Lorient have signed former Manchester City left-back Benjamin Mendy after his clearance from rape charges by the Chester Crown Court last week Friday.

He was released by City in June after his six-year spell.

The 29-year-old was announced on Wednesday by the Ligue1 side as their new player.

He will remain with the Club until 2025.

The French professional player was accused of raping a 24-year-old woman at his Cheshire mansion in October 2020. He was also accused of the attempted rape of a different woman at his house two years earlier.

He was arrested in November 2020 and put before court where he was initially cleared of six counts of rape and one of sexual assault. Jurors at the time could not reach verdicts on one count of rape and one of attempted rape.

He was subsequently cleared on July 15.
