Sikadwa Has Made Asante Great Already, I Have No Aim to Expand- Otumfuo

The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has affirmed the historical reach of the Asante Kingdom under the Golden Stool, saying there is no need or plan to expand it further.
During a courtesy call by members of Parliament’s Select Committee on Chieftaincy, Culture, and Religious Affairs at Manhyia Palace on May 13, 2026, Otumfuo said the Golden Stool has already secured the borders of Asante extensively.
“I uphold my culture and tradition,” he stated. “Everyone knows that Bono and Ahafo were part of Western Asante before Ghana was partitioned into regions.”
Otumfuo explained that the selection and enstoolment of chiefs are matters for traditional councils, guided by custom and tradition, not by government.
He noted that houses of chiefs have no right to enstool a chief, a practice he said has occurred in some parts of the country.
Such actions, he added, are often backed by politicians and serve only to fuel chieftaincy disputes and conflict.
The Asantehene stressed that preserving the integrity of traditional processes is essential to maintaining peace and the legitimacy of the chieftaincy institution.
