SEC Directs Use Of Ghana As Sole ID Card In Securities Market

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Ghana has issued a directive to securities market operators and investors to use the ECOWAS Card popularly known as the Ghana Card for transactions in the Securities market.

“SEC hereby directs that the “Ghana Card” shall be the sole identity card for all new investors seeking to undertake any transaction with the securities market”, a part of the statement said.

Meanwhile, in the case of existing investors, the Ghana Card shall be the sole identity card for their transactions with market Operators effective January 1, 2023, the SEC noted.

It furthered that investors who were admitted to the securities market with identity cards other than the Ghana card should update their details with the Ghana Card with their respective market operators.

The directive, SEC said, is to ensure uniformity of identification of investors to enhance market surveillance and ensure the integrity and security of information.
