Reshuffle: Amin Won’t Make Any Impact Despite Competence- Adongo

The Member of Parliament for Bolga Central Constituency, Isaac Adongo, has criticised the alleged appointment of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta noting it will make vain Mohammed Amin Adam’s new role.

Mohammed Amin Adam, a former deputy Minister of Energy has been appointed the country’s Finance Minister, succeeding Ken Ofori Atta who is alleged to have been appointed Senior Presidential Advisor on the Economy and Special Envoy on International Investments and Capital Markets.

“This is clearly window dressing,” Adongo stated in an interview on Eyewitness News monitored by opemsuo.com.

Expressing confidence in the competence of Amin Adam, the Minority MP lamented that next to nothing would be accomplished by the MP for the Karaga constituency as Ofori Atta will still have an upper hand in finance administration.

“If you follow events and you watch what has happened critically, I do not doubt the competence and ability of Dr Mohammed Amin. He was my former colleague on the Finance Committee, and my senior at school. I have a very good respect for him, except to say that they’ve given him the job in one hand and taken it with the right.

“Because now he is a Minister and they’ve appointed the very person they were removing as the Senior Advisor on the Economy. What that simply means is that for Amin to be able to get any policy through in cabinet or through executive approval, the President has to go and consult Ken Ofori Atta. So technically, it means that Amin cannot do anything if Ken Ofori Atta is not in agreement because he would advise the President against it.”

He also argued that the newly appointed Finance Minister won’t make any impact since the budget statement and economic policy have been passed with the needed revenue allocations made.

“All he is going to do is manage what Ken Ofori Atta wanted to happen. I just wonder what we are going to achieve. You can’t bring on Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo when you are 10 nil down with 30 seconds to end the match. They will simply not effect any impact. That is exactly what the President has done.”
