Pulling a Goal In Kotoko Jersey Is a Privilege- Mukwala

Asante Kotoko forward, Steven Mukwala says it is a great achievement and a big deal to open a goal account in the red jersey of Porcupines.

The Ugandan who has scored six goals across all competitions this season was speaking at a post-match press conference after his brace in the second half helped Kotoko secure all three points against their arch-rivals.

“Pulling a goal in Kotoko jersey is a privilege and is a milestone for me as a player… I thank God for the brace and the hard work as a whole for the team.”

He disagrees with assertions that the change in his position has aided his score tally.

“I’m a forward so if you put me at the wing I can play and if you put me at the attack, I can play.”

In his observation about the game at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday, Mukwala said his side gave their best.

“It has been a good game for Kotoko as a whole and I think we have given our best. We really needed a win against Hearts of Oak and thus the performance. We were down in the first half. We came round in the second half we fought and got the three points.”

“Our fans will have to believe in the process. Since the wins are coming I think we shall score more than two goals,” he said about some squandered chances during the game against Hearts of Oak.

The Porcupines came from behind to score a first-half leveller and two second-half goals against the Phobians who got onto the scoreline courtesy of Congolese midfielder Linda Mtange Don in the 37th minute.

An equalizer in the 44th minute by Isaac Oppong lit hopes for Kotoko going into the break. Mukwala put his side in the lead in the 55th and 74th minutes with his brace. Hearts reduced the deficit in injury time.

Assistant coach David Ocloo at the presser credited adequate and effective preparation for the win.

“It’s all about preparation and consistency. We prepared well, tactically and physically. When it comes to the play module too we prepared very well. It went to perfection.”

On their second-half performance, he said, “We were more aggressive and purposeful upfront.”

Kotoko are 7th on the league log with 22 points.
