Prisons Reform Project: “A National Call, Not A Misplaced Priority”

The Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Mr. Isaac Kofi Egyir has described the GMB 2021 winner’s Prisons Reform Project as a “national call and not a misplaced priority .

Mr. Egyir expressing gratitude relayed that the prisons becoming a choice project of a beauty queen comes as a delight as it is often a rare choice.

“To have a contestant of a beauty pageant select the prison service as a choice of project and who incidentally emerged winner is a rare choice, I express profound gratitude from the entire staff as well as inmates of the Ghana prisons service to the beauty queen for her compassionate choice to undertake such a project which seeks to address some of the challenges confronting the prison establishment”.

Sarfoa at the Manhyia Palace launched the Prisons Reform Project which carries the mission to extend support to persons in prisons to improve on reforms to make reintegration easier.

The director is expectant that the project will “considerably help advance prison reforms in the country and bring prison conditions more in line with the requirement of the United Nation standard minimum rules for the treatment of prisoners.”

He added that he finds the choice as “a national call and not a misplaced priority that will contribute meaningfully towards a worthy call.”
