Tafo MP Files Notice of Motion to Halt Suspension of the CJ

The Member of Parliament for Tafo Constituency, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, says a Notice of Motion has been filed to halt the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Sackey Torkonoo.
The motion was filed on April 24, 2025, at the Supreme Court.
“I have as of this morning filed a Notice of Motion at the Supreme Court to ‘suspend’ the Suspension of the CJ,” he announced in a Facebook post.
The lawmaker ran to court in March when the President forwarded three petitions demanding the removal of the CJ from office to the Council of State for review and advice.
He was demanding a declaration that the President acted ultra vires when he directly forwarded the petitions to the Council of State for advice without first notifying the Chief Justice about the petition for her removal to obtain her response.
The case is still before the court.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, President Mahama suspended the CJ and constituted a commission to investigate the allegations contained in the petitions after a prima facie was established by the Council of State.
This has been met with opposition from a section.
However, the government has consistently defended the move, noting that the critics have failed to provide any constitutional breach by the President in suspending the CJ.
