President Akufo-Addo Commissions Accra Central Bulk Supply Point

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commissioned the Accra Central Bulk Supply Point (BSP).

The 161 KV BSP commissioned on Tuesday, June 13 is said to be the country’s first Gas Insulated System (GIS) substation.

In a statement announcing its commissioning, the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) said the BSP was constructed in 2018 through a grant support of US$40 million by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

“The infrastructure project is a significant milestone in the advancement of Accra’s power supply infrastructure,” the Company said noting its operationalization has ensured quality electricity supply in the Central Business District.

According to GRIDCo, its operationalization in the CBS has ensured uninterrupted power supply for industrial, commercial and residential users.

Additionally, it said it has ensured delivery efficiency and reduced system losses.

“The GIS facility incorporates control building; main transformer platform hosting three 125MVA Transformers; gas insulated switchgear platform with 170kV Gas switchgear; platforms for 161 KV cable terminations; and indoor 33kV switchgear systems,” it outlined.

GRIDCo expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their support in the delivery of reliable electricity.
