Police Warn WASSCE Candidates Against Post-Exam Violence as Exams End June 19

The Ghana Police Service has cautioned final-year students against violence and unlawful celebrations as they prepare to complete the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) on Friday, June 19, 2026.

The Service urged all candidates to remain disciplined and law-abiding, and to celebrate responsibly once their last paper ends.

In a statement, the Police reminded students that acts of violence, vandalism, arson, assault and any other unlawful conduct carry serious criminal consequences.

The Service said such actions can permanently jeopardise students’ futures and derail the academic careers they have worked hard to build.

It added that the Police will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute any student found engaging in misconduct.

The warning follows two recent incidents of student violence in the Upper East Region.

At Zebilla Senior High Technical School, two students were arrested in connection with the arson of a teacher’s apartment.

At Bawku Senior High School, four students were arrested for rioting, assault on school staff, and destruction of school and private property. In both cases, six students are currently facing the law.

The Ghana Police Service is calling on students, parents, guardians and school authorities to work together to promote a culture of discipline, respect and peace as the 2026 WASSCE comes to a close.
