Police Caution Public Against False Publications On Assin North Election
The Ghana Police Service has urged the public to be circumspect about their report on the Assin North by-election.
The election is scheduled for Tuesday, June 27 and the police say adequate security measures are in place to maintain law and order.
Despite this, the Service said there is a need for the public to exercise restraint in their utterances and avoid spreading false information.
It said at a stakeholder meeting ahead of the elections, representatives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) and the Electoral Commission (EC) raised concerns about disinformation.
“One concern all the stakeholders want the public to help them address is the circulation of false information on social media.”
It continued, “In this regard, we would like to urge the public to be circumspect in their reportage on the election and avoid circulating information that has the likelihood to occasion a breach of peace.”
It noted that the necessary action will be taken against the culprits.
