Sunyani–Kumasi Highway Accident Leaves 16 Injured

A near-fatal accident along the Sunyani–Kumasi highway has left 16 passengers with various degrees of injuries.

The accident happened on the dawn of November 18, following a head-on collision between a Ford Transit with registration number AS 7172-23 and a Kia Rhino with registration number AS 3058-X at Nyamebekyere.

It took the intervention of an eight-member firefighter team from the Bechem Fire Station to extricate and rescue the victims.

Fourteen passengers were rescued from the Ford Transit, while two were taken from the Kia Rhino.

All the injured were transported to the Bechem Government Hospital and PISGAH Advanced Medical Centre.

“Even though the victims suffered varying degrees of injuries, no fatalities were recorded. Both vehicles, however, sustained extensive damage,” the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) reported in a statement.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
