NPP Presidential Aspirants Obliged to Pay Additional ¢4 Million- Ken Agyapong

Aspiring flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong, has revealed that each of the five aspirants was obliged to pay ¢4 million in addition to the filing and form fees.

Addressing some individuals as part of his campaign, he disclosed, “It takes Ghc4.6 million to contest as a flagbearer.”

The former Assin Central member of Parliament classified this as shameful in his speech.

“A shameful incident is that the five Presidential aspirants are to each pay Ghc4 million because the party is financially handicapped. I picked form for Ghc100,000, filed for 500,000. I initially thought it was a joke, so I didn’t take the GHc4 million along.

“As I was filing my form, one official whispered into my ear, asking if I had brought the Ghc4 million along. I was given the 5th as the deadline.”

He believes the prospects of the party would have been favourably different had it extensively awarded contracts while in power.

It may be recalled that Francis Addai-Nimoh, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), abandoned plans to contest in the flagbearership race of the party.

In a press statement, he outlined a number of factors for his decision, including “unreasonable and unhealthy monetisation” of internal politics.

According to him, these factors undermine the foundations of the party’s internal democratic culture and place unethical emphasis on money rather than competence and winnability.

Meanwhile, five people successfully submitted and filed their nominations to contest for the flagbearership position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The five are Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong, Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong, H. E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.
