Politics Shouldn’t Infiltrate Our Educational System- Asantehene

The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called for sanity in the country’s education system at all levels.
According to His Majesty, the system is critical and thereby the need to protect it from any political interference.
At a meeting with the management of the Ashanti Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service on February 12, 2025, he said there should be an educational policy in place to guide the actions and decisions of political actors.
“All I want is for our education to be devoid of politics. We should have a policy that all leaders come and continue.”
Report
The Monarch also directed the Directorate to furnish his Office with a detailed report on the challenges faced at the basic and secondary levels, their causes, and recommendations.
This, Otumfuo indicated, will keep him updated with the true state of the country’s education for the needed assistance he can render.
According to him, such challenges deserve full attention to find a suitable solution.
He recognizes that if left to linger, it would come back to bite hard at the country in the long run.
“Document all problems facing schools and make recommendations and submit them to my office. Anyone who wishes to be a lawyer, engineer first passed through your hands. What is going wrong from primary to senior high schools. Before, students would go to the dining hall to find meals served but now we are told there are shortages of food items in the school. Put all these and their causes on paper for me. If you document it for me, I will be able to know how to help.”
The Asantehene deems the report as critical, especially as the government has set up a committee to review some aspects of the country’s educational system.
Donation
The Directorate joined the Manhyia Palace’s celebration of the second Awukudae Festival on February 12, 2025 and donated an amount of ¢300,000 towards the Heal Komfo Anokye Project.
“Komfo Anokye is the place we will seek health care when we are sick. We can’t afford treatment outside the country and so we mobilised revenue from all stakeholders to help Asantehene’s funds mobilisation initiative to renovate the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital,” the Ashanti Regional Director of Education, Dr. William Kwame Amankra Appiah said.
Expressing gratitude to the King for his scholarship scheme in support of education, he said the initiative had facilitated their mandate.
Additionally, he outlined some measures the directorate had instituted to augment the King’s vision to advance literacy.
Service
Meanwhile, he pledged his outfit’s commitment to the service of the Asantehene at all material times.
“We are prepared to serve. At all occasions the Palace hold, we have been bringing in our cadet to render their services. Same was done at 25th anniversary and we know there is an upcoming Odwira this year. Please include us in your plan. We are ready to serve at the occasion.”
