OSP Says Investigations On Abena Dapaah Ongoing

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is still investigating the former Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah for suspected corruption and corruption related-offences.

This follows reports that a search at the residences of the former Member of Parliament for the Bantama constituency had led to “substantial discoveries”.

In a notice on Wednesday, July 26, the OSP said the public will be briefed about the outcome when the investigations are concluded.

The notice read, “On Thursday 20 July 2023, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) commenced investigation into suspected corruption and corruption-related offences involving the former Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah in respect of large cash sums reportedly stolen from her house.

“The OSP has, since then, taken a number of steps and actions, including placing Ms Dapaah under arrest and conducting searches at two residential properties associated with her.

“The OP is still conducting its investigation. The public will be briefed on the outcome of the investigation when it is concluded, including any further steps the Office may take.”

It was reported on Friday, July 21 that two house helps of the former Minister were facing charges before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly stealing an amount of $1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghanaian cedis at her residence at Abelenkpe in Accra.

In a press statement over the weekend, Abena Dapaah asserted there are inconsistencies in the report.

“There are noticeable inconsistencies between what is being discussed in the public domain and the thrust of the original complaint on the matter” and added steps are being taken to address the propagation of the falsehood.

“I am taking steps to examine the origins of the inconsistencies and will provide a detailed response in the coming days,” Mrs Dapaah said in a press statement dated July 21, in reaction to media reports on the theft.”
