Ablakwa Invites US Ambassador over 10% Tariff

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has extended an invitation to the United States of American Ambassador to Ghana, H.E Virginia Palmer over the recently imposed tariff on Ghanaian exports to her country.
The recent 10% reciprocal tariff was announced by President Donald Trump on Wednesday and takes effect on April 5.
In a Facebook post, the Minister said the envoy will be providing clarity and reasons for the said tariff on April 7.
“I can confirm that I have invited US Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Virginia Palmer to my office on Monday morning to provide clarifications and reasons for President Trump’s imposition of a 10% tariff on Ghana.”
Meanwhile, the Ambassador held a presser on Thursday to assure that the tariff will not affect their life-saving programmes in the country.
‘The new face partnership will maintain all of the life-saving programmes. The US and Ghana have a very warm, close relationship, as you all know, and that is founded on four pillars.”
H.E Palmer emphasized the strategic importance of Ghana to the economy of the US.
“So, it is something that builds prosperity in all the countries. It is all to say that no matter what the changes in language and no matter the change in focus, Ghana is really an important part of the United States and we will continue to be so.”
