Obuasi Trade Show Has Come To Stay – AngloGold Ashanti
The AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine has expressed excitement about the significant impact being made on businesses and the entire economy of mining communities through the Obuasi Trade Show (OTS) annual event.
Held under the theme, “Harnessing our creative potential to diversify the local economy”, the Obuasi Trade Show was relaunched in 2019 by the AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine in partnership with the Obuasi Municipal, Obuasi East District, Akrofrom District Assemblies and the Ghana Enterprise Agency.
The five day annual event is aimed at diversifying and sustaining the local economy under AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine’s 10 Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP).
Speaking at the official opening of the 2023 edition in Obuasi on Thursday, December 21, 2023, Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo, the Community Relations Manager for Africa, said AngloGold Ashanti “truly had a clear vision but what we didn’t know was the future and how it is going to be”.
He continued, “We stand here this morning to note that the Obuasi Trade Show has come to stay as an annual event symbolizing progress and prosperity for our beloved city, Obuasi.”
What the OTS does each year according to him is to “bring together talented minds, innovative ideas and flourishing businesses all working together towards a brighter future for Obuasi”.
The former Sustainability Manager noted that since it was relaunched in 2019, the OTS is gradually yielding significant results, serving as a wheel for accelerated economic growth in Obuasi.
“What I am in particular very excited about is that the Obuasi Trade Show is increasingly evolving into a force under a more sustainable structure and leadership. The Obuasi Trade Show has served as a catalyst for economic growth, fostering collaboration and nurturing entrepreneurs in Obuasi. Through the collective efforts of exhibiters and participants. We have over the years witnessed the rise of new SMEs, the expansion of existing ones and the strengthening of the Obuasi economic landscape,”he emphasized.
He said while acknowledging the significance of the Obuasi Trade Show, it is equally important to also recognize the critical role of AngloGold through the 10 Year Socio Economic Development Plan by equipping the youth of Obuasi with technical and entrepreneurial skills while supporting them to establish their own businesses.
Chairman of the occasion and Chief of Adansi Dompoase, Okofo Kwabena Bonsu entreated residents of the Obuasi community to embrace and take advantage of the 10 Year Socio Economic Development Plan.
He commended AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine for their commitment to the diversification of the Obuasi local economy.
The event was also attended by the Fomena Manhemaa, Nana Amoanimaa Dede II, Chiefs, Queens and opinion leaders in the Adansi enclave. It offers local businesses opportunity for exhibition of locally made products most of whom are trained by AngloGold Obuasi Mine
