O/R: Security Forces Seize 1,000 Rounds of Ammunition in Nkwanta Operations

Security personnel in Nkwanta in the Oti Region have intercepted 1,000 rounds of ammunition during two separate intelligence-led operations conducted on May 17, 2026.

In the first operation, a night patrol team stopped a 66-seater MGI bus with registration number AS 248-P at a checkpoint in Nkwanta and uncovered 750 live J/G cartridges concealed in a black polythene bag containing three brown boxes, each packed with 250 rounds, during a search.

During preliminary interrogation, the driver’s mate, Hudu Mahama, 53, admitted ownership of the ammunition, according to a statement from the Joint Security Team.

In a separate operation on the same day, a joint Police and Military team pursuing a suspect motorbike rider retrieved a box containing 125 AA cartridges and 125 BB cartridges, making a total of 250 rounds.

This was when the box fell from the motorbike during the chase.

The rider escaped, but preliminary inspection of the box led to the arrest of Christian Kwasi Alonise, 57.

Both suspects are in custody and assisting with investigations.

The retrieved exhibits have been retained for evidential purposes, while efforts continue to locate a second box carried away by the unidentified rider.

The Joint Security Team said it remains committed to restoring and maintaining lasting peace and security in the area.
