NPP To Hold Emergency Meeting With MPs

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is scheduled for an emergency meeting today with its Members of Parliament (MPs).

This was contained in a letter dated February 21 addressed to the MPs, National Executive Committee (NEC) members and National Council Regional representatives.

“By the order of the National Chairman, Mr. Stephen Ayesu Ntim, you are hereby notified that there will be an emergency National Council meeting on Friday, February 23, 2024.”

The meeting will be held at the Alisa Hotel at 9 am, the letter signed by the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong said.

It is assumed that the meeting will centre on the alleged resignation of Hon Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, the Member of Parliament for Suame Constituency from the position of Majority leader.

The lawmaker on Wednesday, February 21 resigned from the position during a meeting at the Jubilee House ahead of the public of his appointment as Chairman for the Manifesto Committee of the 2024 flagbearer of the NPP, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, according to reports.

The media got wind of plans to effect some changes in the front bench of the Majority in parliament earlier this week; however, the first Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei Owusu discredited the information.

Though there is yet to be a confirmation about his resignation, footage sent by Opemsuo Radio’s Parliamentary correspondent, Nana Kwaku Boffah on February 22 showed the Suame MP taking a seat other than the one designated for the Majority Leader in the plenary.

He was seated on one designated for the MP for Adansi Asokwa constituency, Hon KT Hammond.

If confirmed, Hon Kyei Mensah Bonsu will be the first Majority leader in the country’s history to resign.
