NPP Releases Timetable For Primaries

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has released a timetable to guide its Presidential and parliamentary primaries.

It covers nominations, special electoral college elections and the election itself.

In addition to that, the party said it has instituted rules and regulations to govern the primaries which will be released to the public in due course.

The timetable was drawn on Monday when the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) met after several failed attempts to come up with dates for the primaries.

Presidential Primary

The presidential primary is slated for later this year.

Nominations will be opened for the contestants on May 26 and close on June 24 with a special electoral college election on August 26.

The primaries itself will take place on November 4.

Parliamentary Primary

This has been grouped into elections for orphan constituencies {constituencies not occupied by the NPP} and those with sitting legislators.

On June 16 nominations will be held for orphan constituencies. It will close on July 14.

The elections will be held on August 1 and 2.

For constituencies with sitting MPs, nominations will open on December 20 and close on January 4.

The elections will be held on February 24, 2024.

Restriction

The party has restricted national, regional and constituencies executives from contesting in constituencies where the party has sitting MPs.

This was contained in a statement dated April 3, 2024, from the National Secretary of the Party, Justin Kodua Frimpong.
