NPP Polls: Court Place Indefinite Injunction On New Juaben North Election

Two members of the ruling New Patriotic Party have filed an injunction application to prevent the party from holding the constituency executive election in the Eastern region’s new Juaben North constituency.

Godwin Osei and Bernard Amponsah, the applicants, are asking the Koforidua High Court to throw out the polling station executives and electoral coordinators’ books.

They also urge the court to throw out the February 27, 2022 polling station elections in the constituency.

In order for the party to hold new elections with clearly defined timelines and methods.

The applicants claim that the polling station election in February was a sham.

The applicant claims that the polling station elections, on which the register for the upcoming constituency executive election will be based, weren’t produced in accordance with the modalities set by the NPP National Executives and directed at all constituencies to abide by, according to excerpts from the writ of summons filed on April 27, 2022.

Meanwhile, a statement issued by the Constituency election committee on April 28, 2022, announced the indefinite postponement of the election.

“Kindly be informed the Constituency Election which was slated for Friday, 29th April 2022 has been postponed until further notice. The postponement has been occasioned by the disagreement on the venue(s) and other related matters for the conduct of the election”.

The statement further said ” The CEC is in consultation and discussion with relevant stakeholders to agree on a venue for the election and after that, a new date and venue will be communicated as soon as possible. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused and continue to pray for your support in making this election a peaceful one”.
