NPP Holds Emergency Meeting Over “Recent Happenings”

National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Stephen Ayensu Ntim has held an emergency meeting with the regional Chairmen of the party.

The meeting took place at the Party’s headquarters in Asylum Down in Accra on Thursday, September 28, 2023.

Predominantly featuring in the discussions were the recent happenings in the party, specifically, the resignation of a party stalwart, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten.

“The meeting discussed inter alia recent happenings in the party, and the way forward,” the National Chairman said in a post on X.

“I used the occasion to admonish them to keep focus, and work hard to win their respective regions for the party in 2024. I have their utmost assurance and commitment to duty. Together, we can,” he said.

The NPP has publicly belied assumptions that the resignation of Alan Kyerematen will have any impact on the Party’s aim of “breaking the 8” in next general election which is 15 months away.

At a press conference on Wednesday, September 26, the General Secretary of the Party affirmed that the departure of Alan will not impact the party in any way as it has continued to exist despite recording similar incidents in the past.

The founding member of the NPP has decided to go independent in the 2024 Presidential election following “intimidation” and “manipulation” by some leading members of the NPP.

He announced his resignation on Tuesday, September 25, a month after he withdrew from the Presidential Primary of the NPP.

Following this, Boakye Kyerematen Agyarko, another presidential aspirant of the NPP who also withdrew called for retrospection by the leadership.

According to him, Alan was bold enough to put out his sentiments, however, there remain several others who have harboured theirs in only waiting to vote against their Party in the next general election.

“At least, my brother Kyerematen has put his thoughts and feelings on paper for all to appreciate. How about the many who habour similar and maybe more petulant sentiments in their hearts but are not openly expressing same. There are many in our party today who have, out of dismay, resigned in their hearts and are only waiting to walk away from us at the ballot box.”
