Alan Kyerematen Laments Over Assault On Agent

New Patriotic Party flagbearer hopeful Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has decried the assault of his polling agent in the Northeast region during the Super Delegates Conference over the weekend.

Identified as Ali Zakaria and a campaign Coordinator for Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen’s Campaign, he sustained an injury during an altercation that erupted at the polling station as a result of his protest against an alleged display of cast ballots.

Pictures showed his bruised and bleeding eyebrow.

Exaggeration
The North East Regional Coordinator of the NPP, Walibe Amos reacted to the news saying the incident had been exaggerated by the Alan Campaign.

“I wish to state on authority that it is an exaggerated story,” a part of the statement said explaining, “There was an altercation between the said polling agent of Hon. Alan Kojo Kyeremanten and our regional youth organizer when the agent attempted to prevent the youth organizer from putting his thumb-printed ballot paper into the ballot box.

“The agent’s reason was that our regional youth organizer had shown his vote to bystanders. So he rushed to snatch the thumb-printed ballot paper from the regional youth organizer. The youth organizer resisted him and hit the agent with his elbow leading to the agent falling on the ground. The hit also caused a cut on the agent’s forehead causing him to bleed.”

Alan’s Reaction
In a statement, Alan expressed his “deep sorrow” over the incident and assured the agent and his family of his unwavering support.

“This is an indelible blot to the integrity of the internal democratic process within the NPP,” he held.

He further appreciated the efforts of his supporters and campaign team and congratulated his fellow aspirants who have made it to the final stage.

Alan plans to re-strategise after his surprising third place in the polls on Saturday, August 26, 2023.

“The A4P campaign coordination team is currently analyzing the results of the Special Electoral College Election and in the course of this week, I will deliver a public broadcast on the way forward for my campaign.”

It was assumed ahead of the elections that Alan would take the second place after Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, however, he was overtaken by Kennedy Agyapong.

Out of a total of 923 votes cast across all regions, Mahamudu Bawumia took the lead with 629 votes followed by Ken Agyapong with 132 then Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen with 95 and Owusu Afriyie Akoto with 36 votes.
