NADMO Launches AI Chatbot to Boost Disaster Communication in Ghana

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has launched an Artificial Intelligence-powered chatbot to strengthen multi-hazard disaster risk communication across Ghana.

The platform, developed in partnership with UNESCO and funded by the Government of Japan, will provide citizens with 24/7 access to real-time hazard updates and enable emergencies to be reported directly to NADMO.

Speaking at the launch, NADMO Director General Major Dr Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon (Rtd) said the initiative would greatly improve disaster preparedness and response efforts.

The Head of the UNESCO Ghana Office, Mr Edmond Moukala, said effective communication is key to disaster risk reduction.

“Informed citizens are better equipped to protect lives and property,” he noted.

Performing the official launch on behalf of Interior Minister Hon. Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, Chief Director for the Ministry of the Interior, Mrs Doreen Annan described the initiative as timely.

She said climate change is increasing the frequency and severity of floods, droughts, storms, and other disasters in Ghana.
