MTN “Postpones” Implementation of New Data Prices

Mobile Service Provider Company Mobile Telecommunications Network (MTN) has postponed its intended 15% upward review of mobile data prices.

The new prices were to take effect on Monday, November 14, 2022, according to a communique released by the company.

The 15% adjustment, it said, would affect offers on the shortcodes 138 and 170.

It would also affects purchases through Electronic Voucher Distribution (EVD), MTN Pulse and Data Zone except for XtraTime.

Fibre Broadband and Fixed Wireless Access (that is, 4G routers and Turbonet) customers will however not be affected by the new prices.

Per the release, the Ghc3 bundle which gives 476MB would offer 410MB; GHC5 which gives 602MB would offer 525MB; GHc10 which gives 971 MB would offer 845MB, and GHC30 which gives 2803MB would offer 2153.63MB.

MTN attributed the adjustments to the increasing cost of operations due to the recent economic shifts.

The adjustment has been rescinded at least for the meantime.

An SMS sent to customers on November 14 afternoon said the implementation has been “postponed”.

“Dear Valued Customer, kindly be informed that the implementation of the new data prices scheduled for November 14, 2022, has been postponed. We will keep you updated of the new implementation date. Thank you for your continuing loyalty.”
