Measures In Place To Maintain Law And Order In Kumawu Election- Police 

The Ghana Police Service has assured constituents in Kumawu about the requisite security arrangements for tomorrow’s by-election.

The constituency is scheduled to elect a new parliamentary representative to fill the vacant seat left after the demise of Hon Philip Basoah.

In a statement dated May 22, the Ghana Police Service said adequate security personnel have been deployed to the constituency to maintain law and order.

It also talked of its meeting with parties in the election which it said was meant to enhance collaboration toward a peaceful election.

According to the National Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fiifi Fiavi Kwertey, who was part of the meeting, he raised concerns about the use of non-uniformed police personnel in such elections.

“I expressed the concerns of the NDC regarding non-uniformed personnel of the Police Service who have been cited for major and unfortunate security mishaps in past by-elections.

“IGP George Akuffo Dampare was emphatic that all Police Officers who will have a role to play in the By-election will be in Police uniforms and their names will be boldly displayed on their uniforms,” he posted on his Facebook wall.

The Police Service subsequently assured that adequate measures are in place to deliver a peaceful election on May 23.

“We wish to assure the people of Kumawu Constituency to go about their normal activities freely including going out to exercise their civic duty of casting their vote.”

It also called on the public to collaborate with the police to deliver a peaceful election and ensure the safety and security of all.
