Mahama Outlines His Vision For Ghana If Elected President

Former President John Dramani Mahama has outlined a series of things he will put in place when elected once again by Ghanaians in  next year’s general elections.

Some include demands Ghanaians have been making to the incumbent government, however, fallen on deaf ears, it appears.

The newly elected flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) gave the list while giving an acceptance speech at the University of Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale on Monday, May 15, 2023.

Below Are The Promises:

1. set a standardized limit for borrowing

2. cut down on the number of ministers and other government appointees.

3. reconsider the tax exemption regime, ensuring that any exemptions are beneficial to the Ghanaian people.

4. ensure that the extractive sector operates within a mutually beneficial tax environment for the stability of the exchange rate.

5. being transparent and not concealing economic indices such as the budget deficit, public debt, and Net International Reserves.

6. transform the economy, diversify our exports, and ensure value addition to create more jobs.

7. launch a programme akin to the “Operation Feed Yourself and Industries” of the early 70s to make Ghana self-sufficient in basic staples and curb unnecessary imports.

8. restoring banking licenses that were unjustly cancelled by the Akufo-Addo Government

9. operating an effective government with not more than sixty (60) ministers who won’t be entitled to ex-gratia

10. a review of the controversial Article 71.

11. adopt a robust root-and-branch approach to fight corruption

12. continue the constitution review process to plug the loopholes and clarify some clauses in our constitution and make it more responsive to our current reality

13. establish a Governance Advisory Council to help improve political governance, curb corruption, and ensure respect for human rights is upheld.

14. give anti-corruption state institutions unfettered space to operate

15. set up a Commission of Enquiry to investigate the matter of looted State Lands

16. given the conducive and collaborative atmosphere for the press to operate
